The UNITED METHODIST MEN of the Greenville District
presented a newly developed
Lay Speaking Course "Understanding Men's Ministry" during the
Spring
Lay Speaking
School March 23-24. It was attended by men from all over the state, and
included 2 women and
two pastors. Details will be announced later on a later course to be offered.
Bill Smith conducted the first
course of this new
program in February 2010 and the author Dick Strachan conducted the 2012
event.
It is an important program since the UMC is losing men
at an
alarming rate, with only some 30% of adult members being male.
To get information on the course when available, check with the Greenville District
Lay Speaking Ministry.

The Faith UMM is currently on a hiatus
while we reorganize, Come and be

All men are welcome to
come
and join us, regardless of church affiliation..

UMMen is not limited to the men in Faith UMC,
Men from
local churches, indeed,
men
in the area regardless of their
church affiliation, are earnestly invited to
attend
and participate in program.
The purpose of UMMen is to help men to declare
the
centrality of Jesus Christ
in their
lives.
We have been charged by Jesus to take the
Message
beyond
our own
church area. This is a way we can be evangelists for Christ.
Men are leaving the church (not just the UMC)
in large numbers. Did you know
that only 30% of adult UMC members
are men? Studies have shown
that where the man is the first in the family to
come into the church,
the rest of the
family will follow 93% of the time (versus 17% if the youth
is first and 35% if the
mother is the first). Should we not be focusing a major effort to minister
to men and
bring them
back into the church and make of them Disciples of Christ?
Attending UMMen may be a small step,
but it is a start,
and may help you in your life journey.
You can make a
difference!
Come and join us.
